Software and documentation for COFFEE HAZEL. Everything on this page is free to download.
Artisan settings file
This settings file draws COFFEE HAZEL readings onto your roast curve in Artisan. Alongside humidity, temperature and water vapour density, it adds ΔH2O — the absolute humidity difference between exhaust and intake — and its rate of rise.
The unit talks to Artisan directly, so there is nothing to install in between. Load the file from Help → Load Settings…, type in the unit’s IP address, and you are done. If you already run Phidget or another probe, that setup is left untouched.
A ZIP file containing the settings file (COFFEE_HAZEL.aset) and setup guides in English and Japanese. The guide also covers what to do if you already use Extra Devices. Requires Artisan 4.0.2 or later and firmware V2.3.0 or later.
Desktop app “Coffee Hazel”
A companion app for the unit, free to use, for macOS (Intel and Apple silicon), Windows 10 / 11 and Ubuntu. Download the .dmg, HazelSetup.exe or .deb to suit your system.
The app interface is currently in Japanese.
Manuals
Setup guide (English)
From unboxing to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth setup, fixing the IP address, mounting the sensor in the exhaust duct, switching screens, and updating firmware.
Using the app (Japanese)
Reading the screen, working through a roast, configuring first crack detection, bean presets, and CSV export.
Product flyer (PDF, about 5.9 MB, Japanese)
Firmware updates
Firmware is updated over the internet from the unit’s own screen.
V2.3.0 or later is required for the Artisan integration. For ΔH2O and its rate of rise to appear in the desktop app, V2.2.0 or later is required; on earlier firmware those two readings show as -1.
Questions
Common questions, including what to do if the app will not start, are answered on the COFFEE HAZEL page.
If that does not help, please get in touch. We are happy to advise on whether the sensor will fit your roaster.
