How we started
SORAMAME LAB INC takes the many things that happen in coffee, looks at them scientifically, and turns what it finds into something you can use. We started in March 2026, around KURIYA COFFEE ROASTERS, together with people who share the idea — a researcher, students, and an administrative lawyer.
Roasting is made of heat transfer, which is physics, and of the changes inside the bean, which are chemistry. Working from that view, our first product after three years of testing is the roasting sensor COFFEE HAZEL.
A second and a third product are in testing now.
Where we are
We work from Kawasaki, a hill village in Miyagi, northern Japan, where the population is declining — and we keep our eyes on the world beyond it. We would like the children here to see that a life can reach that far, and we would like this place to have some life in it.
The name and the logo
The logo is a planet with a satellite in orbit around it. The planet is also a coffee bean.
Unravelling the mysteries of space, and doing science on coffee — to us these are the same thing. That is what the name and the mark are for. Soramame reads as “sky bean” when written our way, and is also the ordinary Japanese word for a broad bean.
